A good day out at the Meynell and South Staffs today with Derby Huntsabs and Manchester Hunt Sabs (with Liverpool Hunt Sabs joining us later in the day).
The hunt met at the Bluebell Inn, Kirk Langley, just to the East of Derby, an area we know well as it's very popular with the hunt. Despite the terrier men getting up to their usual tricks of blocking gates and trying to delay sabs we didn't lose sight of them all day and were always ready when they picked up a scent.
Midway through the afternoon the hounds came upon a fox who was forced to run right through the pack to escape. Fortunately our sabs were perfectly located and were able to form a whip line to stop the hounds and enable the fox to get away.
The terrier men got increasingly irate as the day wore on, attacking sabs who were blowing trumpets, but we're used to them and this behaviour doesn't deter us. The huntsman finally called it a day shortly after 3pm (early for him) and we were happy to have a nice early finish. All in all a fairly easy but very successful day. We'll be back!!
